Description
The NH Doelen Hotel situated on the river Amstel, right in the centre of Amsterdam, is more than just a hotel. The NH Doelen Hotel portrays a life-style reflecting the middle 1800's when famous and infamous guests were made to feel at ease in the majestic surroundings. This lovely hotel consists of one roof top suite, five salons, eighty fully equipped business class hotel rooms. Another feature that makes this hotel unique in Amsterdam is the availability of WiFi, high speed internet. The signal is available on the ground and first floor. Great care has been taken to preserve the unique decor. The main entrance hall and reception are crowned by the beautiful open staircase leading to the hotel rooms. How do I get to the NH Doelen Hotel by public transport? :

1) From SCHIPHOL AIRPORT: Every 20 minutes there is a train running from the Airport to Central Station. When you arrive at the airport and you reach the central hall there is a big sign with the train information. The trains to the Central station are running from 05:40 AM to 00:30 AM (go to step 2)

2) From CENTRAL STATION: You can take tram: 9, 16 and 24 from the square in front of the station to the Spui/Rokin. From there you can walk to the hotel +/- 3 min. the trams in Amsterdam are running normaly from: 07:00 AM to 01:00 AM

The hotel was lovely and we had a cannal view which was a great surprise. the area was great and only a short walk to dam square. if we went to amsterdam again i would definately book here again. it also gives you the opportunity to upgrade when you get there.

Potentially a beautiful hotel in great location. condition of room spoilt what was meant to be a special romantic break.
I was very disappointed in the state of the room which had wall paper ripped off from one small area of the all by the bed and tseriously needed a redecoration. it was shabby and unkept looking. the furniture was scratched badly and chipped. i appreciate that it was half price room but i thought that £214 for a room in this state for two nights was high.

The staff was very helpful and kind. they made you feel like you were at a five star hotel. very happy with the staff.
There was one staff member (male) very early in the morning when i checked out who was not pleasant or friendly. he was a little rude.

Overall this was a good hotel in a great central location. being just off the main road/tram routes made a big difference to noise levels outside. the coffee shop (just coffee!) downstairs was a bonus and good for a visit before starting the day. staff were helpful throughout our stay.
Being an older building there was one negative point- the floorboards of the room above us made a lot of noise, which was really annoying at night.

When booking the hotel on the website price for the room was £158 but when i got to the hotel it was about £200 which was a little unexpected. also there was rubbish in the room.

The room i had booked had already been given to someone else so instead of a twin room we had a suite with a bunk bed thrown in, was quite disappointed, wont stay there again.
